Total Look Rally sets a course for Dolce Vita 60
  • Next edition of Total Look Rally series takes enthusiasts back to the swinging sixties
  • Incredible list of classic cars from which to choose
  • Dolce Vita 60 scheduled for 6-8 May 2022, departing from Rome

The next edition of the Total Look Rally series will take participants on a journey back in time to Dolce Vita 60, a three-day adventure that sets off from Rome on Friday 6 May 2022.

It follows this year's running, Le Vendôme 80, which brought together a group of eager enthusiasts for an unforgettable trip through France. Taking the wheel of classic eighties cars, they travelled from central Paris to idyllic countryside, picturesque villages, and the castles of the Loire Valley. The cars alone were unmissable, but with participants dressed in the striking style of the eighties this was truly a sight to behold. Le Vendôme 80 is set to return in Spring 2023.

Organised by SRO Motorsports Group, the Total Look Rally concept has now expanded to encompass a series of events that celebrate the exceptional automobiles produced during the second half of the 20th century. Each will dive headfirst into a chosen decade, embracing the era’s music, fashion and machinery in all their glory.

The sixties could be said to have set the standard in each of these areas. The decade brought about a youth revolution in music, led by such bands as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys, creating a soundtrack that remains relevant today.

Sixties fashion was a story of contrasts. Whereas the early part of the decade was more reminiscent of the 1950s – conservative and restrained, more classic in style and design – the latter years were the polar opposite. Bright and swirling colours, psychedelic tie-dye shirts, and long hair and beards were all commonplace, setting the tone for what was to come in the seventies.

Since this later style will be central to the subsequent Total Look Rally, Flower Power 70s, Dolce Vita 60s will encompass the late fifties and of most of the sixties, drawing inspiration from the iconic movies released during the first half of the decade, such as those directed by the great Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini.

Cars from the same era will be eligible, running from the iconic Fiat Cinquecento in 1957 all the way to the breathtaking Ferrari 275 GTB4 launched in 1966. In between, the decade ensures an incredible array of possibilities. Ferrari alone produced several all-time classics, including its 250 GT and Dino models, while fierce Italian competitor Lamborghini was founded in 1963 and soon released the 350 GT.

A variety of British models attained legendary status, from the original BMC Mini launched in 1959 to the prestigious Aston Martin DB4, DB5 and DB6, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, and the Jaguar XK 150, Mark 2 and E-Type Series1. For added sixties swagger, the Sunbeam Alpine that appeared in the very first Bond movie could also be an option. There will be plenty of choices for fans of American machinery, from the Ford Falcon, Thunderbird, Mustang and GT40 to the Corvette C2, Chevrolet Impala and Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz. The mouth-watering list also includes the Mercedes 190 SL, Renault R8 Gordini, the final Porsche 356 and the first Porsche 911, as well as plenty more.

Like all editions, the upcoming event will include a Total Look Contest that awards prizes for the best cars, outfits, music and combination of accessories, as well as a photo competition for selfies taken along the journey, with additional points for style, artistic merit and fun. A concours d’élégance will recognise the finest cars, while a sixties evening will be organised on Saturday. What's more, part of the entry fee will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.

If you are interested in participating in Dolce Vita 60 but do not have an eligible car, SRO Motorsports Group can offer rental opportunities for the event. Indeed, journeying back to a decade of unrivalled sights, sounds and automobiles is truly not to be missed.
