SRO Motorsports Group partners with Permian Global in fight against climate change

SRO Motorsports Group partners with Permian Global in fight against climate change
  • New partnership aims to tackle climate change through protection of tropical forests
  • SRO to support world's largest emission reduction forest project in Borneo
  • Work continues towards target of operational carbon neutrality by 2023
  • The protection and restoration of tropical forests is a crucial component in global efforts to address climate change

SRO Motorsports Group has taken a further step towards meeting its sustainability objectives by partnering with Permian Global in the fight against climate change.

The three-year agreement represents the latest initiative undertaken by SRO as it strives to achieve operational carbon neutrality by 2023. Permian Global's tireless efforts to protect and recover tropical forests, coupled with its holistic and transparent approach, make it the ideal partner in this endeavour.

Tropical forests are home to nearly half of the world's plants and wildlife and absorb around one fifth of man-made CO2 emissions annually. As such, they play a pivotal role in the global fight against climate change. Permian Global aims to safeguard this critical resource by driving large-scale forest recovery and protection through the sale of verified emission reductions (VERs).

SRO will support this work by offsetting its residual carbon emissions and investing in the Katingan Mentaya Project. Located on the island of Borneo, this immensely successful initiative has to date prevented the release of more than 40 million tons of CO2 and is the world's largest emission reduction forest project. SRO has also launched the Road to Carbon Neutrality programme, which allows its competitors to run carbon neutral by supporting Permian Global’s forest conservation work in Indonesia.

The new partnership builds upon the foundations laid by SRO last year in an effort to reduce its carbon footprint and embrace green solutions. In doing so, the company aims to be a leader in sustainable motorsport both at the track and in its day-to-day activities.

Stephen Rumsey, Chairman of Permian Global: “Healthy natural forests are home to millions of plant and animal species and they play a critical role in the broader health of the entire planet. Forests, especially dense, fast-growing tropical forests, have a tremendous capacity to sequester and store large amounts of carbon.
“Given the urgency and the scale of the climate crisis, it is vital that there are corporate leaders ready to be the driving forces of positive change – both in terms of mitigating emissions and supporting work that is further benefiting the natural world. We are delighted to find in SRO, a partner that both understands the challenge ahead and is committed to play a key role in the solution.”

Stephane Ratel, SRO Motorsports Group founder and CEO: "We are delighted to announce our new collaboration with Permian Global and to be supporting them in the fight against climate change. SRO has set ambitious targets, making it essential that we work with the best possible partners. The practical, science-led approach taken by Permian Global fits this description perfectly. Today marks another important step in our carbon reduction objectives and we look forward to further expanding our work in this area throughout the year."
